Hrmmm....I'm wavering on this one. I lean towards a low-ish 3 for the "tavern," which, in case you weren't aware, is a loosemeats sandwich. Not really my thing, but apparently an exemplary sample of a loosemeats. I do realize, however, that I had a completely bastardized version of the loosemeats when I ordered it with lettuce. I know I know, WTF was I thinking?! Anyway, I have a hunch that I likely wouldn't have dug it without the lettuce, too, considering um...loose meat is just kind of...um...gross. That aside, the malt here was DELICIOUS and ginormous and only $2. The cheese balls (which are essentially fried cheese curds) were awesomeness in all their non-greased up, cholesterol-skyrocketing, heart attack-inducing perfection. You heard me -- NOT greased up. *gasp* Also, (dare I say it...?) I thought the cheese balls were better than...cheese curds had in WISCONSIN. *throws down the gauntlet* You heard me! BETTER! HA! Anyway, overall I'd say this place is pretty awesome for a road-side, road-trip staple. And heck, let's face it: if you survive as a divey kind of place in small-ish town Iowa for 50 years, you've gotta be servng something that keeps 'em coming back for more.

My Dad grew up in Lemars and always bragged about Bob's Drive-Inn hot dogs. I had my first Bob's hot dog as a small child and loved it! Since then I have moved and traveled throughout the world and never had a better hot dog. My husband and were visiting Lemars a few years ago and stopped in to try the hot dogs to see if they were still as unique and tasty as I remembered. They were.... My husband went nuts over them. No place since has compared to the wonderful tasting hot dogs we had at Bob's. We have tried to find better. My husband is now a corporate CEO of a large fashion company out of New York and LA. He still to this day brags about Bob's Drive-Inn in Lemars, Iowa! Long live Bob's Dogs! They say that some things never change...let's hope that Bob's is one of them.

Bobs has been a staple in our family since my parents were little! It's the best! We love the taverns and the hot dogs with meat sauce! The buns are always fresh and quality is amazing! The staff are always friendly and its remained the same for as long as I can remember! Thanks Bobs!

Stopped in on way to Omaha. Great local semi fast food spot. Lots of local cars in lot. Eat outside on picnic tables or inside. Good selection of burgers, sandwiches, malts and more. Great food, fast friendly service, reasonable prices. Kinda of a blast from the past place you would expect in a small town. Will stop by again, next time driving through Iowa.

Every time I come to Le Mars I eat here. The tavern that they have is the best, ground meat in a seasoned sauce on a freshly baked bun. Must stop after four... The hot dog is my second favorite. So meaty, the bun perfect. Then there's the cheese balls and the malts and it's all good. Enjoy!

Excellent hotdogs and fries. Has very much a small town feel around the area. Chili dog was fantastic and get it with everything on out. CHEESE FRIES!!!!!

I've never loved a wiener so much! I'm not what you would call a Hot Dog Person. Sure, I've been around the block a couple of times, and have a weakness for those cheese-filled hot dogs that you but at the grocery store that I crave on holiday weekends in the summertime. But I digress! Bob's became known to me because I have great grandparents from LeMars and my mom also grew up here. We'd drive up to visit my great-grandma and stock up on Bob's tavern meat covered hot dogs as if we were about to experience an apocalypse and would have to survive solely on hot dogs alone. We would drive the 2 hours back to Omaha and freeze the rest to heat up, trying to space them out to prolong the savoring. I'm sure I've probably had other things at Bob's, they have several other things on the list, but I just can't get past their first and most signature item. It's just called "hot dog" on the menu, but it is much more. They stuff their own casings and when you bit into it, it "pops" if that is the right word for it. And they cover their hot dogs with tavern meat, which is delicious seasoned beef. These Midwest folks know how to do carnivore style. The usual toppings are onions, ketchup and mustard. This hot dog is, HANDS DOWN THE BEST hot dog, sausage, etc I have ever had. And I've been to Germany! This last time I also indulged in a shake. LeMars calls itself the ice cream capital of the world. They have a multitude of delicious flavors and they will let you combine two of the flavors. I had a hot fudge marshmallow. Yummy! The girls that work there are super sweet and respectful, and you just can't get this kind of delicious experience for under $3 anywhere. I love Bob's, I'll be a fan for life and I hope they are always there...

This has been a long time my favorite place to stop and eat when in this part of Iowa visiting family. I can remember Bob's back in the day when he first opened his doors. Damn, am I that old? lol Used to have car hops and this was a true drive in. Still serves some of the best food in the town. Will always stop here for a bite.

Stopped here for an early supper traveling back to our SD home. First time ever, but will not be our last. Onion rings and a hot dog was the first course, but saved room for one of those large twist cones. Gotta get me some good ice cream when in LeMars! I can see why this place is still in business nearly 65 years!!!

Stopped in Le Mars on a whim because of Blue Bunny. Stopped here when we discovered the Blue Bunny shop doesn't serve food, just ice cream. Yay, win for us! Always wanted to try a loose meat but I hadn't made any specific plans for it. When I move to Sioux Center for my retirement I'll come here often.

Ms T and I used cheap AA flights to Sioux City as an excuse to pursue a few "taverns". After a night at Miles Inn in Sioux City, we followed the recommendation of an old friend who grew up in LeMars and motored up to Bob's Drive-In for lunch. This is another great place that is worthy of its reputation. The tavern was very good. The meat was moist and not unseasoned like some loosemeats. It almost had a little sauce in the meat. The onion was light, and the mustard and pickle made it perfect. I also had to have a Bob Dog. The hot dog is a Wimmers, with nice pop and flavor. It made a good combo with the tavern meat, also with mustard, onion and pickle. Bob's fried cheese balls are rubbery, not greasy. They are very good. You need to eat them hot and they are very good. Bob's is an wonderful, honest roadside drive-in. It was bustling at noon on a Friday and I suspect this is typical. It is a genuine slice of America.

Without a doubt, this is a MUST when you're in Le Mars! They are a great stop for lunch or dinner! Their service is quick, and they always have helpful employees. My favorite item on the menu is the tavern. For those not from NW Iowa, this may sound like a bar and not a item on a menu, but it is a similar concept to a beef burger or sloppy joe (FANTASTIC nonetheless). If it was my husband writing the review, he would be raving about how fantastic the hot dogs are. He always makes sure to get at least one when we go.

There aren't many things that will keep me from going straight to see my mom when back in town... in fact a Bob's hotdog may be the only thing. Stopped there yesterday and wasn't disappointed. Only grabbed a loaded hotdog but really wanted to add their yummy cheeseballs and a hot fudge sundae malt (there are no malts better!). If you're from the area this review isn't necessary. If you're not, Bob's is a must try!

I have no complaint about the food. What is a complete turn off for eating here is when you see an employee walk thru the kitchen waving the toilet brush she just cleaned toilets with. As far as I am concerned this toilet brush should never see the kitchen!! EVER! What's worse is she was waving it above her shoulders as she passed by the area where orders were being made. Toilet brushes are wet after cleaning. Then minutes later she was stirring the meat, with the apron on she had just cleaned the toilets with??? I had stopped eating at Bob's cause I seen this happen years ago and to see the owner\manager thinks this is ok? I will post this review in hopes that he changes some policies

Bob's is an icon with a delicious secret recipe loose meat sandwich referred to in these parts as a "tavern". Make sure you stop in for 1 maybe 2, I order mine with everything-onions, pickles, ketchup & mustard. Follow it up with a peanut delite! If your a hot dog fan this is the home of "the Bob Dog".

Very good and highly recommended. A good friend of mine from LeMars turned me on to this place. I will admit that I don't drive over just for the dog, but if I am going through, I always stop. Fun to bring someone for their first time here cuz most people not from the area don't know of it. The dogs snap! Love that!

Every time we're in Le Mars we have to eat at Bob's. My mom grew up in Le Mars and so it has a special place in our hearts. I come back every 3-4 years and the classic, simple menu is always there. The hotdog itself has a delicious crisp to it, and the meat sauce on it is wonderful with good seasoning.

Bob's Drive-Inn is an absolute staple for anyone living in the area- they keep a simple menu that revolves around what they do best, hot dogs. Not a "fake" old restaurant, a real one.
(5)Alisha L.
My family and I always ate here when visiting my grandparents-I still drive 3 hours out of the way to dine here when visiting other cities in Iowa.
(5)Jeff N.
Seriously the best hot dogs with meat sauce. When they close for the winter you can't wait until they reopen
(5)Amanda S.
I grew up around LeMars and have since moved away. Bob's is not a place that I really care to go to when I'm home. I lived about 10 miles from the town growing up and only ate there once. I realize that most people really like it and I'm probably the weird one, but I wasn't all that impressed. A hot dog is a hot dog is a hot dog.

If only I didn't live in California, I'd be at this place every day. My mother was born and raised in Le Mars. I spent every summer until I was 18 visiting my grandparents and cousins. I, along with a friend, used to come here every day to have a tavern and/or a hot dog. Everytime a family member returns to Le Mars, this is the first place they head too. Their food is the bomb!

Best cheap dog in my book. Get the dog with meat on it. Skip the fries. Get 2 dogs instead- then get a teeshirt to take home to your home town.. This place is the kind of food you dream about.. Love it. Loose meat + Dog = delicious. That hot dog pops when you eat it, and they have the cooking process perfected. Great flavor.
